Our Tanks

The measurements of our two tanks are 100x40x50 cm (39x16x20 inches) and 80x35x40 (31,5x14x16 inches). Both are connected by a sand filled glas box which is intended as a nest site.

The water level amounts to 25 cm (10 inches), which is accepted by our turtles who are said to be poor swimmers. Ours swim quite well actually, they don't just run around on the ground but are likely to float just below the water surface very often. We provide driftwood that makes it easier to reach the surface or leave the water for the basking places.
The tank bottom is covered with gravel. The pebbles have a diameter of 1-3 cm (0,4-1,2 inches). At the beginning we used the same gravel as for our fish tanks, but this proved to be quite messy. The mud and dirt that mixes with the fine gravel is very difficult to get rid of.
